Psychic Phenomena and Environmental Change: A Study of Indigenous Beliefs in the Amazon

Abstract

This study examines the intersection of psychic phenomena and environmental change among indigenous communities in the Amazon rainforest. Through qualitative interviews and participatory observation, the research explores how environmental degradation impacts traditional beliefs in psychic abilities and spiritual connections to nature. The findings reveal that as ecological changes threaten their way of life, indigenous people report a decline in psychic experiences, which they attribute to a disconnection from their ancestral lands. The study highlights the role of traditional ecological knowledge in preserving both the environment and cultural identity. By documenting these experiences, this research contributes to the discourse on environmental psychology and parapsychology, advocating for the recognition of indigenous knowledge systems in addressing contemporary environmental challenges. Ultimately, it emphasizes the need to support indigenous communities in their efforts to maintain both their ecological and psychic heritage.
