The Role of Management Accounting in Enhancing Energy Efficiency

Abstract

This paper examines the role of management accounting in promoting energy efficiency within Colombian organizations. The study utilizes a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews with industry experts. Findings indicate that management accounting practices, such as energy cost accounting and performance measurement, significantly contribute to enhancing energy efficiency. The research identifies key challenges, including the need for organizational change and employee engagement. Recommendations for integrating energy efficiency into management accounting frameworks are provided, emphasizing the importance of leadership commitment and stakeholder collaboration. This study contributes to the understanding of how management accounting can support sustainability initiatives in the context of energy consumption.
